Speech Competition rules

  1. The speech competition will have two parts, a written component and delivery component.  The speech writer must deliver the speech.  It may not be delegated to another person for delivery.
  2. Speeches will be assessed by a panel of three judges, after which the six best speeches will be selected for delivery at the final round of the competition.
  3. Speeches delivered for the finals must be done within 8 to 10 minutes.
  4. Each entrant will submit a speech on the topic:  Workplace Policies Addressing HIV and AIDS will Improve Acceptance of People Living with HIV at Work’.
  5. The deadline for submission of the speech is Friday 10th January 2014 at 12:00 noon by email to [email protected].  Absolutely no hard copies will be accepted.  No names or identifiers of entrants should be placed in the speech.  Names should only be placed on the entry form.
  6. Where research is done, sources should be referenced.  Penalties will apply for plagiarism.
  7. The announcement of the six finalists will be done by email on Monday 3rd February 2014, but not later than Tuesday 4th February, 2014.
  8. The six finalists will deliver their speeches on Thursday 13th February, 2014 before a panel of three judges and an audience.
  9. The decision of the judges is final.  No discussion will be entertained regarding points awarded. 

Additional

  1.  Entrants are advised to do a website search for unaids terminology guidelines (revised October 2011), which should be consulted for use in the speech.
  2. All participants are invited to the finals.
