THE HON. COLIN E. JORDAN, M.P.

MINISTER OF LABOUR, SOCIAL SECURITY AND THIRD SECTOR

Colin Jordan is a graduate of Black Bess Primary, Harrison College, the Barbados Community College, and the University of the West Indies Cave Hill Campus. He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Economics and Accounting with Upper Second Class Honours.

After beginning his working life as an Auditor with KPMG, his career in tourism started in 1993 when he joined St. James Beach Hotels, now Elegant Hotels Group, as Senior Accountant at Tamarind Cove Hotel and then became Controller at Colony Club Hotel.

He moved to Amaryllis Beach Resort, later the Palm Beach Hotel Group, in 1997 where he held positions of Financial Controller, Director of Finance, Administration & Human Resources, and ultimately Chief Executive Officer. In January 2007 he joined Dover Beach Hotel as Managing Director.

The husband of Charmaine, and father of two daughters, Chelsea and Courtney, has played an active role in the Barbados Hotel and Tourism Association, serving for ten years as Vice-President Finance, one year as President-Elect, two years as President, and two years as Immediate Past President. He has served on the Association’s Government Affairs and Labour Relations Committees, the latter for over seventeen years. He is former Chair of the Schools’ Tourism Education Programme Committee, a programme he pioneered and one for which he is passionate.

During his tenure he developed and executed a number of other projects including the booking engine, BookBarbadosNow.com, the book “Island in the Sun: The History of Tourism in Barbados,” establishing the Tourism Working Group, a research group that includes all of the major stakeholders, an annual school’s competition, among others.

An elder at his church, Colin was most recently Director of Business Development with the Mango Bay Group, a position he held for nine years. He has served on various other boards and committees including the Community Tourism Foundation, the Board of the Barbados Tourism Authority and the National Insurance Board.
