  • Youth Encouraged To Register For Upcoming Job Start Plus Cohort

Young people who are currently not employed, enrolled in school, or participating in any form of training are encouraged to register for the Job Start Plus Programme.

Programme Assistant with the People Development and Monitoring Unit, Diente Collymore, said the programme, also known as the Government’s National First Job Initiative, is designed to equip participants with the skills and experience needed to successfully enter the workforce.

“We are inviting young persons between the ages of 16 and 24 to apply. Persons with disabilities may apply, up to the age of 34. The programme is specifically for individuals who are not currently in employment, education, or training,” Mr. Collymore explained.

Job Start Plus begins with a three-week training programme conducted Monday to Friday. Participants receive workplace readiness training and other employability skills designed to prepare them for the world of work.

Mr. Collymore noted that participation in the programme is completely free. “The programme is offered at no cost to participants. However, individuals must be available to attend the full three weeks of training and must also be available for full-time employment following the training period, as the programme includes a job placement component,” he stated.

He revealed that approximately 10 spaces remain available in the upcoming June cohort, which starts on Monday June 15, and encouraged interested persons to apply as soon as possible.

Mr. Collymore explained that each cohort accommodates approximately 30 participants, with training taking place throughout the year in three cycles: May to July, September to November, and January to March.

“Job Start Plus continues to provide valuable opportunities for young people seeking to gain work experience, build confidence, and improve their chances of securing sustainable employment,” the Programme Assistant stressed.
