Job Start Plus: The National First Job Initiative

Empowering Young People to Enter the Workforce

The Barbadian job market is highly competitive; many young persons struggle to find employment due to lack of work experience. Nearly 50% of school leavers face challenges finding jobs, and on average over 25% of young persons are seeking work but are unsuccessful in their job search in the last ten years.

The Job Start Plus Programme was created to address the problem of youth unemployment and to bridge the gap between school and the workplace. It is a targeted employment support programme designed specifically for young people who are currently not in employment, education, or training (NEET) and are ready to take the next step into the workforce.

The programme provides structured world of work training, career guidance and planning, skills development, other developmental support and job placement opportunities to gain invaluable work experience.
