Barbadian primary school students in the north of the island will have an opportunity to learn more about child labour and their role in protecting children when the National Child Labour Committee hosts the second Child Labour Forum, on Tuesday, June 9.
It will be held at the Daryll Jordan Secondary School, Trents, St. Lucy, from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., under the theme, Protect Our Children: Raise Your Voice Against Child Labour.
The event forms part of activities to mark World Day Against Child Labour, which is observed annually on June 12 by the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the global community.
Coordinator of the National Child Labour Committee, Rhonda Farley, said the forum aims to increase students’ understanding of child labour and empower them to become advocates for the safety and protection of children.
“Children have an important role to play in helping to create safe environments for themselves and their peers. Through this forum, we want students to understand what child labour is, why it is harmful, and how they can use their voices to promote the rights and well-being of all children,” Mrs. Farley stated.
The upcoming forum follows a successful Child Labour Forum held on March 3, 2026, at the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre, which engaged students from primary schools across St. Michael.
The National Child Labour Committee remains committed to raising awareness about child labour and ensuring that young people throughout Barbados are equipped with the knowledge needed to recognise and report situations that may place children at risk.
The Ministry of Labour, Social Security and the Third Sector encourages schools, parents, and the wider public to support efforts aimed at protecting children and eliminating child labour in all its forms.
