Key Trends And Developments In The Barbados Labour Market 2003-2013

Welcome to “KEY TRENDS AND DEVELOPMENTS IN THE BARBADOS LABOUR MARKET 2003-2013” the newest feature of the Ministry of Labour’s website! This section has been prepared to give readers with a need for labour related information an insight into the latest trends and developments occurring within the Barbados labour market.  

 

For this exercise, the Ministry has researched, compiled and prepared a series of statistics and corresponding write-ups which seeks to analyse trends occurring within the Barbados labour market over the past ten years. This initiative is done through the identification of a series of labour market statistics which are commonly used to gauge the overall performance of the labour market. For most indicators a graph is supplied, in order that a reader can view fluctuations over time, in the movement of a particular variable. A table is supplied for each indicator which is followed by a brief write-up.

 

Currently, this research is compiled on sixteen key labour market indicators. These are:

 

  1. Adult Population (000's)

  2. Labour Force (000’s)  

  3. Employed Labour Force (000’s)

  4. Labour Force Participation Rate (%)

  5. Inactive Adult Population (000’s) (providing primary reasons for inactivity)

  6. General Unemployment Rate (%)

  7. Youth Unemployment Rate (%) 

  8. Unemployed by Duration of Unemployment (000’s)

  9. Employment by Industry (2010-2013 ONLY)

  10. Employment by Occupational Grouping (000’s)

  11. Employment by Highest level of Qualification

  12. Employment by Employment Status

  13. Work Stoppages

  14. Local Placements made by the National Employment Bureau

  15. Overseas Placements made by the National Employment Bureau

  16. Barbados Accreditation Council (B.A.C) Certificates of Recognition

     

Two other pertinent indicators are provided for: 

 

     17. Inflation Rate

     18. G.D.P at market prices

In the near future, the Ministry is desirous of adding other statistics to this list such as Work Permits (providing top 10 work permits issued in both 2003 & 2013)
