Secure Your Workplace Occupational Safety and Health Policy Prepare for Legislation on Health and Safety

Successful workplace OSH policies of both the public and private sectors were shared by representatives of Purity Bakeries from the Goddards Enterprises Limited Group; the Ladymeade Reference Unit and Scotia Bank at our recent Zero in on Safety: Secure your Workplace Policies Seminar.  The requirements for developing the policies were discussed and the following guidance was outlined:

  1. Consultation with the entire workforce since each worker is exposed to specific hazards in their area of work;
  2. Tailoring the policy to the specific business since each workplace has hazards that are inherent to that workplace;
  3. Obligations of the policy should be clearly defined;
  4. The policy should be realistic;
  5. It should be available to all workers;
  6. All workers should be trained in the policy and its outlined procedures;
  7. Implement the policy consistently;
  8.  Review regularly;
  9. Enforce the policy.

Zero in on Safety: Secure your Workplace Policies seminar hosted by the Labour Department on December 5, 2012.
