Exploring Career Options At National Showcase


Secondary school students from across the island got a glimpse of future career choices, when they attended the Barbados Association of Guidance Counsellors’ (BAGC) 11th National Careers Showcase.

Held recently at The University of the West Indies (UWI), Cave Hill Campus, the showcase featured several display booths where students could interact with the facilitators and learn about the responsibilities and functions of each career.

Draft Summary of the Safety and Health at Work Act, Cap 356


The Labour Department has published a draft Summary of the Safety and Health at Work Act, Cap 356. It is hoped that this  guide will  help employers and employees better understand the objectives of the Safety and Health at Work (SHAW) Act and their corresponding responsibilities. The guide is intended for the use of all who have an interest in safety, health and welfare. It seeks to assist in the day-to-day application of the Act by providing a simplified version of its provisions.

Return To Queen


In the early 20th century Queen’s Park, Bridgetown was the site of many formative events in the evolution of social justice in Barbados.  The West Indian Royal Commission (Moyne Commission) held meetings in January 1939 in Queen’s Park to ascertain the cause of the 1937 “Labour Rebellion”.  The historic value of Queen’s Park as a venue for the labour movement and social justice was gracefully expressed by the Right Excellent Errol Barrow when he stated that one of his most profound formative political experiences was listening to Marcus Garvey address the people of Barbados in the Queen’s Park Steel Shed in October 1937.

Minister Byer Tours Aquafarm


After four days of interactive training in fish farming and aquaponics at Adam’s Aquafarm, 20 young people between the ages of 18 and 34 are now fully equipped to work within this developing field.

This is just one segment of the Ministry of Agriculture and Ministry of Labour’s Agri-preneurship Incubator Programme which falls under the latter’s Human Resource Development Scheme.
