North America has a great shortage of long haul truck drivers. While travelling to Canada I thought of the idea of a project where we (Barbados) may train local youngsters to drive container trucks and give them some practical geography classes etc, with international ethics and behaviour sessions and export that talent into the US and Canada. It would give those who may not be academically inclined a better opportunity to be more productive for them selves and their families in the long run. It would give our youngster more opportunities and experience as well as adventure than they would get in Barbados.
I work in shipping and logistics and may be able to seek alliances with overseas companies that may be willing to pursue such a joint venture like this. I also think that this is something that may extend to our Caribbean neighbors also.
