I believe in the first instance there should be a revision of speed limits.
- Highway 2A should be be made 80km across the entire stretch or roadway.
- Islandwide school zone speed limits should be shown as per the attached image. (time and day of the week specific)
- Silent zones should be expanded to include the Gov. Generals residence and Govt' HQ on Bay street. signage stating the fines imposed for non compliance. should be erected.
Remove police from hiding areas using speed cameras. This entrapment agitates motorists. Officers are more useful to respond to accidents which usually see officers simply drive past as they are assigned elsewhere. In place of the officers as system of fixed cameras and warning signage can be used to act as a contact deterrent to speeders. in conjunction with the cameras a ticketing system can be introduced. All fines should be payable at any 'state revenue point" post office. tax office etc.
Benefits to a fixed speed camera system are:
- 24hr 365 day effective . At present speed enforcement is usually only when it is not raining.
- instead of entrapment signage cam be erected to warn drivers of presence of cameras. this gives them the opportunity to self - correct their speed. This signage is the equivalent of drivers flashing lights at each other to warn one another of impending speed cameras.
- fixed cameras and ticketing removes the "friend" element the exists within the enforcement community.
