OBSERVATIONS ON MY 1.5 HOUR COMMUTE FROM ENTERPRISE TO RENDEZVOUS (approx. 7km) TODAY
* If there was an accident, and the RBPF had to be involved, is there a traffic unit that monitors traffic conditions at peak hours and dispatches extra police office hours to direct traffic at roundabouts? If there is, is there a hotline? If there isn't, there should be
* I have long felt that minor traffic accidents with less than an approximate $1000-2000 damage should not have to have a police investigation as is in Canada. Can the collision not be cleared off to the side at that point and the relevant insurers and roadside assistance be sought? Or even that the insured drivers can deal with it themselves especially in the age of phone cameras?
* I saw a number of cyclist commuters get ahead in traffic leaving us all in the wind! They need to be supported through safe cycle lanes and/ or dedicated pathways
* Car-sharing would be a good thing. The sharing economy needs to be embraced in Barbados. I know the taxi drivers and PSV's would be upset at this prospect but I saw so many cars with 1-2 occupants (including mine). I am sure people would like the opportunity to carpool while helping to offset high gas prices. I think there will still be a place for taxi drivers.
* We do not need to widen our highways. We need to improve our feeder roads. Traffic on Rendezvous Hill is frequently backed up because of the poor road conditions at the bottom of the hill from just above Big B. Like many of our feeder roads, good access and egress as well as good paving would do wonders to prevent slow-downs
* Please tidy up our highways! And I don't mean cutting bush -- I mean removing mangled guard rails by Sagicor and in other places. Replacing knocked down lights, etc. These are safety concerns for road users.
