Currently it takes too long for a hired car permit for no reason. Each registered car currently would take 4 months from start to finish.
Suggestions
1)Remove the requirement for Police certificate. This requirement serves no purpose except the discrimination of people who have had colored past, that are trying to create a better future. Removing the requirement also saves a month and a half off of the time it takes to get a hired car registered and reduces the queue of people getting character certificates. Wins all around.
2)Automatically approve all new request for hired cars permits. There would be no detriment to the country or the industry if every individual had a hired car. In fact, it may be for the better. There is no reason why a board must review permits as they are just going to approve them anyway. It wastes a minimum of 6 weeks and also consumes the board's time needlessly. The board should have reviews or take complaints and then revoke\suspend permits as necessary.
3)Permits should be given for operation of a hired car company. A permit should not be required per vehicle. Why would a company be sufficiently approved for a permit for one vehicle but not another. If it is for tax income by the government, then include the tax in the vehicle registration fee.
3)Include the inspection price in the registration so you do not have to go by the cashier twice. This frees up the queue and also saves everyone time
4) Instantly approve vehicle inspections. After a vehicle has been inspected it is already known if it has passed or failed inspection. This should be printed out instantly and handed over. There is no justification for a further 3 days to get a letter from a separate individual who did not do the inspection. Fixing this would save time and free up an individuals so that more inspections can be done.
All these changes can be done instantly, for free, providing a man power savings while promoting ease of doing business in Barbados. It will cut down the time taken to registered a hired car from 4 months per car to approximately a month(the time taken to get an inspection).
