Another idea to boost tourism.
When I as a little boy I went to the Wildlife Reserve. The only things I can remember were monkeys and turtles.
I went back a few years ago and I remember monkeys, turtles, deer, something like an alligator and a large parrot-like bird.
Again I visited last year with some children and the place is expanded significantly. I saw snakes and lots of birds, an iguana, fish and other things I can’t remember. With the loss of the Graeme Hall Swamp, there is no other significant place to view wildlife.
I suggest that we expand the reserve again with even more wildlife. The swamp had flamingos. I’d like to see flamingos, a pelican (the type indigenous to Barbados). Maybe we can import some other animals from the other Caribbean islands, a giraffe, peacocks and peahens, macaws.
A lot of the ponds are overfilled with lilies so that I am sure that nothing in the water is alive. The grounds should get a major cleanup, with lots of flowers to make it attractive. Clean the ponds and put fish in them. I am sure that there are many volunteer organizations in Barbados whose members would love to take part in the cleanup and planting of flowers. This would cut the cost to do this development.
With the boost in attractions I would then embark on a major advertising campaign throughout the island and in the region, on the airlines which are arriving, at the airport. Currently there is only one screen in the airport running ads, and the ad is the same short one looping over and over.
I went into the signal station and I was trying to figure out how it communicated with the other signal stations on the island in the old days. We should erect signage or a screen with audio playing to display this information and what the communication was used for.

For the signal station I would add a telescope so that visitors can try to find a) the other signal stations. b) other places of interest on the island. This would give them something else to do and make the trip more worth it.
I would also add a large mirror or light which would be used to send signals to the other stations; cotton tower for example using morse code. Combined with the telescope this would be a great attraction for visitors.
