Good day, for several years now, I have been of the opinion that in order to get more cruise ship passengers off the Vessels when they are in the Port in Barbados and also for them to spend longer on land we need to offer attractions that are not necessarily readily available elsewhere.  As persons who grew up on the west coast, my sister and I  have discussed attractions which we think could help in this regard. There are two recreational suggestions.

The first one is the creation of a 'CARICOM' Park/Recreational area. The Park should house ( primarily but not exclusively) prominent aspects of the culture, craft, music, cuisine etc; of all Caricom Member states. The set up,  maintenance and staffing of the various facilities/stations  should be offered to the various consulates/embassies in Barbados and staffed  by nationals  from the specific countries to give authenticity to their food and culture. Whether it is day or night countries could showcase cultural activities promoting their respective countries.  Nationals of respective countries should be encouraged to form  committes and  undertake the project as a for profit venture.  The  park  is probably best housed within a  large plot of land in  maybe a place like st John.  The inland location allows for Taxi operators to ply their trade  and can be preserved amidst rising sea levels. The park  can be constructed/laid out mirroring the map of the Caribbean, with the various countries in positions corresponding those of the original Map and the 'blue' of surrounding oceans. The facility should be large. Large  enough to make an aerial view appealing and allow for future expansion without too much disruption. The land deal arrangement would be totally up to the government.

This sort of attraction can serve several purposes. It encourages cruise passengers to exit the boat to get a sample of the caribbean cultures from locations where they may not be porting, and it also helps to demystify some of the aspects of the culture in neighbouring countries for local people. Further, it provides a place for schools and other persons  to visit and learn in a practical way about our unique caribbean heritage.  A small Caribbean/caricom/ museum can also be added.
