Good day,

I'd like to suggest a much slower rollout of the plastic ban or no ban at all.
As it currently stands, plastic is way too intergral to the economic fabric of a small importation-dependent nation such as Barbados, we currently cannot provide an alternative to single use plastic that will not have a negative financial impact on the general populace. I'd like to suggest instead, a mandatory policy/legislation for recycling plastics, where businesses and individuals will have to dispose to all specified plastic items in a specified manner to ensure streamlined recycling of these materials so they can be used to reduce litter/pollution caused and also be implemented to the benefit of the country(road and building materials, etc). Not only would such a move be more beneficial than banning single-used plastics, it will also be an obviously driving force for instilling a culture of recycling within the general public(can be then used to persuade overall recyling habits) . However if the push to ban single-use is believed to be a smarter route, then a slower roll-out must be considered(by year 2020), to allow for individuals and businesses to properly understand, educate themselves and source alternatives that will not result in a negative impact on their daily operations. I must reiterate, recyling will be more beneficial than a ban.

I hope that these suggestions will atleast reach someone that is involved directly with the subject matter, although I highly doubt it.

Sama.
