Good Evening
I know I may be late but I have a suggestion for the Emergency Ambulance Service and Barbados Fire Service.
As seen in other countries, I am suggesting a merger of these two entities to Barbados Fire and Rescue.
The disadvantage is that it would come under central government through Home Affairs. However, by merging the entitities items such as training and utility of resources on accident scenes can be consolidated. This will also allow an Ambulance to work out of the fire stations and be closer to the districts in which they are needed.
Finally, this will go a long way in simplifying the emergency numbers of barbados. For this, I am suggesting one number managed by one of police department, DEM or a separate entity.
Thank you for allowing me to contribute.
Yours sincerely,
Jeremy D. Brereton
I would not advocate merging them. The training for a fire responder and an EMT is very different, with the only cross overs being first aid and CPR.
However I would advocate a sharing agreement where ambulances can be "home ported" at Fire Stations. So that they are closer to the emergency. The issue with this is that there are 6 fire stations right now and having each with an ambulance could drain the ambulance resources. One day however when we have more money and ambulances this would be ideal.
