Hello

OLD GENERAL HOSPITAL COMPLEX -- JEMMOTTS LANE

THAT ENTIRE COMPLEX... unused for more than 50 years... stretched from one end of Jemmotts Lane to Martindales Road Roundabout...

It is valuable real estate to Government... It should be used to build NEW, TECHNOLOGY- FURNISHED Operating Theatres, Intensive Care Units, burn units, heart and kidney transplant theatres, etc... those new type of facilities that the current set-up at the QEH which need to come into the 21st century of technology... maintaining the central location of the hospital... and could be called QEH 2... or whatever... an overhead bridging between the two facilities for easy access... it is something that should be considered... then revamping or re allocation of the space at the QEH as it is now can be undertaken.

Hope something from this idea makes some sense to someone.

Thank you.

I know there has been a lot of talk about where to build a new hospital and I was wondering if the property opposite St.Patrick’s Church that burnt recently could be used, along with the old QEH hospital. I am thinking the new state of the art hospital with the surgeries and wards could be built on that property and then renovate the old part for the ancillary services such as the labs, morgue, engineering, admin, laundry, records and, very importantly, additional parking. Some of the old wards could be used to provide extra beds for senior citizens abandoned at the mental hospital and any chronic care facilities. An overground or underground walkway and passage could be built to connect the two buildings.

QEH:  As a retired nurse the chatting system needs to be abolished and patients need their own refrigerators & microwaves. We need call lights over every bed. Since Oistins & Randall Phillips will be 24 hours may be we can have oncology treatments provided there a ling with asthma units and a surgeon on board to do minor wounds.

All bedbaths should be done by Nurse's Aides (retraining may be needed) this will free up nurses to perform medication & other services. We need medication carts desperately linen tables are now being used. Sisters &head nurses are both writing notes in the same patient.

Wound care at the QEH needs another room, the volume there is very high.

Lastly we needs disposable wash cloths.  Currently the staff are using pieces of towels for patients who do not have their own wash cloths.

A few persons that have nursing homes stated that the reason that they do not take out elderly is because government rates are very low and payment to them is horrible. The Minister of Health needs to look into this matter so that bass can be freed up from boarders.

We need a separate window for staff on duty to collect their medication. Also patients being discharged medication should be sent to the respective floors before discharge.

I want to second the call for the reuse of the old Hospital complex. It is large and very close to the existing Hospital, patients and staff can move between the two very easily. Ambulance services would still be going in one general direction. Rather than having to acquire land somewhere and start from scratch.

The old Hospital also has some character and history, so I would suggest the new building be built to resemble the old one on the outside. On the inside however it would be fitted with the best 21st century technology.
