There needs to be a grading of teachers. Such as novice, experienced and masters. Anyone with a  BA but  not trained as teacher should not be getting more pay than an experienced teacher. A novice teacher would be someone just out of teacher training; one to two years post training. Experienced status would be achieved after about five years in service along with appraisal. Master teacher after fifteen years with evidence of professional development in an area of specialization in education, and a good appraisal record.  Simple qualifications does not make one a good teacher. Someone just out of training is inexperienced. They now have to apply knowledge gained  in a real classroom. They need sometimes to be mentored. It creates an uncomfortable situation when the novice because of degree is receiving a higher salary. Especially when they have no teacher training. Salary scale should be restructured to reflect difference between a  novice and a master teacher designation.

Best regards

Take the children in primary schools on nature walks, get them interested in nature, teach them The names of roadside plants, they will learn to appreciate these things more. Show them amazing hydroponic farming, and eco farming...get them get interested in our land .

Teach the children about littering..and the harm it does, get them to clean up the litter around their own school. They won't throw stuff away so readily when they have to pick it up...let's raise some conscious citizens, primary school is a great place to start...have a clean and pretty school...plant things ,teach them about agriculture. These kids will then go home and teach their parents.

It's not all about the three Rs, Barbados still claims to be so literate....but we have some very narrow thinkers. Children need to be able to express themselves and be creative .

Teach them about pets and pet care, and that animals  can be trained ,( and have brains,) thus improving their respect for animals.

Teachers are trained in the methods of communicating subject matter using the constructivist approach. Teachers are not trained to deal with the various emotional & mental health issues students face.

I think that students who are not performing for example repeat a year, the parents should have to pay for the academic year they have to repeat, as well as enrol & complete a parenting course.

If students are experiencing psychological problems then early intervention should occur. Intervention in the home & at school.

It should be mandatory that all teachers be qualified counsellors & be exposed to classes in child psychology & techniques & strategies in dealing with students with behavioural & academic challenges

Teachers should have to upgrade their qualifications every 5 years via refresher courses/post diploma courses.

Teachers should be paid for their Master's degree once it is relevant to the profession.

Teachers should change schools every five years.

All persons entering the teaching profession should take a test to determine their suitability to the teaching profession. In other words is teaching is a right fit for their personality & interest.

Publication of the different schools performance should be published in the news paper.
