My name is Nadia Phillips and I have an idea for schools all around Barbados.
It has been birthed from my frustrations with keeping abreast with my children's progress in class.
I propose the creation of a free app that allows parents to receive notifications of the homework expected to be done by their children and deadlines for submission on a daily basis.
It can go more detailed, by including a summary of the syllabuses (?) to be completed (CLSC assignments, projects etc.) and progress rate of the execution of the above.
There are many tangible and intangible limitations that prevent busy parents from being proper accountable for their child's learning experience. Apart from challenging work schedules that make it near impossible to attend PTA and form level meetings, these gatherings end up being futile attempts, with hours upon hours waiting in lines to see only one of many teachers to be seen to have a conversation one on one, or worse, a speech given by a head master that addresses none of the parents direct concerns.
Not to mention, children are sly and clever. They sometimes, most times, lie to shirk responsibility. Parents should not be solely subjected to the word of their children as it pertains to their academic expectations. It is simply not enough. But with our current system as I know it, the only way I can know is if my children have homework is if I ask them. Have you met my kids? Lol
Parents need to be two, three, five steps ahead to properly steer the direction of their children's development. Help the parents, the ones who chose to also be entrepreneurs, the one who chose both and are doing it as a single parent (like myself) to feel like good, caring, empowered guiders.
I know nothing about chemistry but I would love to know that he issupposed to read chapter 2-5 of his integrated science text book explaining the periodic table and answer questions 4 to 16 and be submitted the following day or week. I want the word of the TEACHER not my CHILD.
The youth are our future. Help us to help them.
Feel me? Lol
Thanks for allowing me to share.
