My name is kendia Brathwaite and I am a graduate of the sport science at uwi.

Now I think in order to have development sport in Barbados to make sport become one of our tourism products, is to start by laying a much needed foundation. Now this foundation should be the implementation of a sport policy. A document which would govern every sporting organization.

This document would state the vision of the government is on sport, what is expected of every sporting discipline, what is the criteria of physical education in schools, what is taught and how we plan on developing a functioning society that is body aware and can properly walk in a straight line. Development of both fine motor and gross motor should also be add to their development.

On the note of sport tourism, this is an industry which has not been tapped as much as it should. Just as crop over is marketed overseas, so should sport. As Barbados has the sunshine to sell as a point for athletes who reside in cold countries to come and train. However with that said I do understand we have a lack of facilities to do this, but facilities can be put in place to achieve such.

They are other possibilities in sport that can be had. They are also alot of issues surrounding sport that have to be adjust. There are other graduates of the sport science program at UWI Cavehill and a head of academics that I am sure will be will g to assist in this venture or even a think tank. As I myself am willing to help in this area. We cannot keep stagnant and expect results, the world has progressed in there training and implementation of programs, such in the case of our cricket. They took our tactics and studied them and advanced them while we settled.

I am one of the few who are willing to stay and keep working in Barbados. Don't continue to let Barbados have a brain drain.

Sincerely,

Kendia Brathwaite

Invest in and update facilities that promote Barbados as an ideal practice destination during off seasons and/or winter.

  • Cycling
  • Swimming
  • Golf

Promote Road Tennis

  •  Installing courts at hotels
  •  Produce Branded racket line – include Barbados branded novelty racket.
  •  Regional Expansion phase 1 – training in schools. Phase 2 tournaments.
