Changing Attitudes One Step at a TimeTherefore, The Ministry of Labour has established the Working Committee to Improve National Worker Attitudes to promote the change that is needed. With a fundamental concept of G.I.V.E (Great Attitude, Initiative, Values and Excellence), the committee is focusing on certain areas, which are undoubtedly linked to excellence in service quality and delivery. These focal points include:
- Attendance/Absenteeism
- Punctuality
- Dress/ Appearance
- Honesty and Integrity
- Performance
- Communication
- Customer Service
The committee was introduced to the public during the Barbados Workers Union’s May Day Celebrations. The Ministry’s staff came out in full support of this initiative, proudly wearing the G.I.V.E (Great Attitude, Initiative, Values and Excellence) t-shirts The May Day Celebrations had many objectives such paying tribute to past unionist and leader, Sir Frank Walcott and the signing of the Fifth Protocol of the Social Partnership. However, for the Ministry of Labour and the Working Committee to Improve National Worker Attitudes, this was the first step towards promoting the change needed to make Barbados one of the best service providers of the world. The Ministry recognizes that the promotion of positive work attitudes and ethics would be a vital component of its strategy to achieve such a grand yet achievable objective.
