In the Saturday Sun on Page 3 there’s an article concenring the demands of PSV operators.

This is the perfect opportunity to implement a mandatory policy of having ALL PSVs to have vehicle trackers. With these trackers insurance companies can monitor driver behaviour directly and report speeding and other violations.

As necessary as PSVs are to public life they are a menace. Speeding, blocking traffic, unexpected stops, not using bus lanes and going off route.

I am not 100% aware of the full capabilities of the vehicle trackers, but presumably it would only take a small software tweak to add new parameters to the current software model.

To incentiveize the adoption of vehicle trackers maybe a deal can be hashed out with companies who install them and the insurance companies (in cases where they are not one and the same) to offer discounts on installation and insurance policies. Conversely, penalties need to be considered for those who a reluctant to adopt trackers.

Trackers can and should also be used on public buses as well to deter the same bad driving habits of public bus drivers.

Eventually, the data collected by these trackers can be used to improve existing routes, create new routes and allow all bus riders to monitor their buses and routes in real time.
