Maternity Grant

To qualify for a maternity grant¹:

1. a woman must not be an insured person; or
2. she must be an insured person who does not satisfy the contribution conditions for Maternity Benefit.
the woman's spouse must have been an insured person and has paid the requisite number of contributions that would have enabled the woman to qualify had they been paid by her.

Amount of Maternity Grant

The amount payable as Maternity Grant is $800. It may only be claimed by the woman who has had a confinement. For purposes of a Maternity Grant, "spouse" includes a single man who is living together with a single woman for a period of not less than 2 years. "Single man" and "single woman" includes a widower and a widow respectively.
