This section contains brief job
descriptions of jobs available overseas which may not necessarily exist in
Barbados at the moment but can be considered by the Barbadian job seeker.
Acoustics Physicist.
Performs systematic examinations of the nature
of sound and how it affects us. Studies effects of noise, musical
instruments, audio equipment, and certain newly devised medical equipment.
May also work in areas including noise pollution and underwater sound.
Aerial-Photograph Interpreter.
Draws maps and analyses and interprets aerial photgraphs
to detect significant military, industrial, resource, or topographical
data.
Aeronautical Engineer.
Designs, develops, and tests aircraft, space vechicles,
surface effect vehicles, and missiles, applying engineering principles
and techniques. Also test models and prototypes to study and evaluate
operational characteristics and effects of stress imposed during flight
conditions.
Aerospace Engineer.
Designs, develops, and helps to produce commercial and
military aircraft, missiles, and spacecraft. Often specialises in structural
design, navigational guidance and control, instrumentation and communication,
or prodution methods. May specialise in one type of aerospace product
such as passenger planes, helicopters, satellites, or rockets.
Aerospace Librarian.
Provides research personnel with available scientific
knowledge in physics and related disciplines to solve problems dealing
with flight in space.
Aerospace Research Engineer.
Conducts research in varying areas from developing vehicles
with greater speeds, to more advanced sources of rocket propulsion, such
as nuclear and electric energy.
Aerospace Scientist
Does research in how durable materials are under
conditions such as intense heat or velocity, or creates new materials.
Also contributes to the developing of designs for aircraft, missiles,
and spacecraft.
Aircraft Stress Analyst.
Performs stress analyst prototypes, designs of experimental
aircraft, productions aircraft, space vehicles, surface effect vehicles,
missiles, and related components so as to evaluate their ablility to withstand
stresses imposed during flight or ground operations.
Astronomy Professor
Gives lectures on astronomy at a university or college
and is often involved in research.
Aviation Physician
Is involved in the practice of preventive medicine in
the fields of aviation and space flight.
Biophysicist
Studies the physical principles of living cells and
organisms, their electrical and mechanical energy, and related phenomena.
Coal-Mining Engineer
Examines coal seams for depth and purity, decides what
type of mine should be built. They also supervise the construction and
maintainance of the mine.
Cyberneticist
Investigates communication , the manipulation of information
and its use in controlling the behaviour of biological, chemical , and
physical systems.
Design Engineer
Designs machinery, products, processes and systems for
efficient and cost effective performance. Machinery may include industrial
machinery and equipment used to manufacture goods. May also design, plan
and supervise the constuction of buildings highways, and paid-transit
systems. Designs and develops consumer products, e.g. televisions, refrigerators
and automobiles.
Exploration Geophysicist
Engages in the search for oil, gas, minerals, ground
water or geothermal opportunities. Uses seismic prospecting techniques
to locate oil and mineral deposits. Uses the electrical and electromagnetic
energy in the earth to determine the distribution of ore bodies and rocks
of different conductivities. They may also measure temperature, and radioactive
emissions, or other physical properties.
Film Producer
Coordinates activities of personnel engaged in writing,
directing, editing, and producing of motion picture. Reviews summaries
and scripts and directs adaptation for screen. Determines treatment and
scope of proposed productions and establishes departmental operation budgets.
Geneticist
Studies inheritance and variation of characteristics
in life forms. Performs experiments to determine laws, mechanisms, and
environmental factors in origin, transmission, and development of inherited
traits. Finds methods of altering or producing new traits, making use
of chemicals, heat, light and other means. May perform human genetic counseling
or medical genetics.
Health Physicist
Protects the environment from pontential radiation hazards.
May engage in research, operational activities, education, or enforcement
of governmental regulations. Assists engineers and scientist in designing
facilities, and establishes new radiation-control programs for them. Instructs
radiation workers and the general public on the hazards associated with
nuclear research and nuclear applications.
